do your valves need adjustment, hard starting in the cold when your valves are out of adjustment, will run fine when warm

I would like to know what the compression is when it is cold.
does it sound like it is turning over fast enough , or is it too slow to allow it to fire?

I've had this problem a couple of times. I am 99% sure you need a new battery. You will think your battery is ok, but these bikes need brand new condition batteries to start and run.

+1. Sounds like a battery that has lost some cells. Cells that wont hold a charge (from a just running bike) more than a few minutes.

Or,... check, tighten, and clean with a wire brush, all your connections at the battery, at the solenoid, and at the chassis ground. Corrosion can call all kinds of wonky effects from the starting system.

Let us know what the end fix was.
