Glamis Questions
Finally set a time for a Glamis trip! We will be there ripping it up January 26th-30th. So for all you "locals" I have two quick questions:
1- Tent camping, and your thoughts on where to stay. I know there are only a few public toilets in the "campgrounds". Your thoughts?
2- Anyone else going to be there and want to show us around? I do have my GPS mounted for some ease of getting around.

i would stay off of gecko road, then go to gecko loop. there are a bunch of toilets there. they have maps there of the dunes...kinda useless tho lol since the dunes change with the wind....its pretty simple to figure out though. gecko road is pretty much the furthest east you can go. the freeway/sand highway is the furthest north. everything else is south west. oldsmobile hill is east about a 30min ride from gecko road and about ten minutes south of the freeway there. competition hill is literally right off the freeway but its not really a cool place to go anymore. then there is "the flag" which is south east of gecko, another 30 minute ride more east-southeast. about 10 miles south of olds...
it sounds complicated...but after a few trips youll know the place like the back of your hand.

Thanks for the info. I have been studying maps of the area allot here at work and have all the GPS coordinates of the different features. So Gecko loop is the first look on Gecko road correct? Every map calls it something different.
Hopefully Ill have your lights on my bike and be able to ride all night long! The package was delivered, but I have yet to be home to open them lol. I still need to finish mounting my 4 new VisionX Solos on my bars.

Yes, geckp road is the only road in glamis that is on a map. About 2 miles down you take a left onto gecko loop. That's where you wanna be.

we stay in the washes behind the flats by the beach store and the vendors, there is a restroom every 3 washes, we tent camp and its fine. we will be there for our guys trip that weekend on wash 3, about 200 yards in. there is about 30 of us going, but like i said, no women or children should be around us on this trip!! you are more than welcome to hook up if ya want, we will be there by about 9 am on friday morning

I also vote for Gecko loop. The dunes are right in front of you and the bathrooms are close. Plus you are getting there mid week so you can get all the prime places. In terms of getting around, my favorite thing is just to go from dune to dune and find some sweet lines. Half the time I don't know where the hell I'm going but just know the general areas of the dunes. It's pretty crazy the different style of dunes in the different areas. Some of my favorites are the Big Bowls out near osborne lookout, some scary big dunes out there.
I'll have to see if I can rally some people to go that weekend, but chances are slim (No vacation time at work).

Due to the recent flooding in Oregon, and the fact that there isnt a road to my house anymore just a river, I dont think I will be able to get to Glamis next week.
Both bridges are closed and the river shifted where the road is for about 1/4 mile. The Army Corps said t would be 4 weeks *maybe* to get the road repaired as they have to dig out the river and shift its flow. Until then no power, no phone, no vehicles in or out.
