air box lid

I was emailed Ron Wood about intakes and they said they get more power with the lid on. Has anybody else dynoed their ds with the lid on then off to see if it made any more power? My ds is at the shop right now and I'll ask if they can run it on the dyno with the lid on to see if any gains are made.

i think it would depend on where you're at! I'm at 5K+ feet so more air for me is essential. If you're at sea level or close to it then from what i've read the intake/throttle body will be overwhelmed w/air and you'll actually lose power! Could be that the A/F ratio goes out of whack w/too much air. I know that it contradictory to most other applications!

I'm sure someone will chime in about the intake velocity/fuel pump restrictions and how that affects the A/F ratio!

even with the lid on you could tune the air box lid by drilling holes in it till you got max power, with a certain amount of holes

The lid has little to do with power. U can tune the power commander to compinsate for the lid

I just got the bike back and with the lid on it made the same peak hp but lost some midrange hp. I going to run it without the lid, I'll post the dyno sheet later.

Heres the dyno sheet of air lid vs no lid, the bike wasn't fully tuned with the lid on but I was told it wouldn't make make more power with it on. I'm planning to get a high compression piston in a month or two.

very cool! Thanks for the post! Will look forward to doing mods! Don't want to get into high comp pistons but the exhaust cam seems to do a little! And the FMI
