I know the difference between the pink wire and the motoworks fmi but I always thought that If you do have the fmi like I do the pink wire CAN NOT BE CUT IS THIS RIGHT I just picked up my quad from the shop and for some reason they cut my pink wire I do not know why ?

with the motoworks FMI you have to have the pink wire NOT CUT...there are other FMIs out there that are different. it should be in the instructions for each manufacturer.

thats just dumb. it totally matters. leave it connected. the fmi units are piggybacks, they do not interfere with the ecu. if the pink wire is cut, then the ecu is sending out a different map. the fmi tuners are piggybacks off of the STOCK ecu map, if you change the stock settings, the piggyback would not work correctly....

any jedi master mechanics wanna correct me here? am i on the right track?

ECU has two maps.

Uncut wire = stock settings
Cut wire = more fuel

Like hcomras said, the fmi unit is a piggy back. You will add or take away fuel with the fmi unit.

If the wire is NOT CUT, then you will add more fuel with the fmi controller to bring the bike up to tuned.

If the wire IS CUT, then you will add less fuel with the controller.

The fmi controller is just a tool to add or take away fuel!

To tune it properly, you should do a dyno session and according to the o2 reading, you will add or take away fuel with the controller.

Does that make sense?

Hey hcomras,

If that last post makes sense, can you copy it and make a sticky at the top of Dyno/Tuning Room and Engine/EFI/Drivetrain threads.

It might help someone.
