Smile Air to fuel ratio tuning?

I posted this question on my DVX 300 thread, I thought I should probally post it here also.

I took my DVX 300 in for jetting to a guy that has a sniffer. There are a few racers around that swear by him. He jets by using a sniffer though the rpm ranges and riding the quad.

I asked him about his knowledge on efi and tuning. He stated that he is not set up to do maps but could help tune by ratio, if I wanted.

I'm thinking of going with the Motoworks efi. I believe once you start modding you need to stay with that company if they have the products available. They should know what works and what doesn't best.

Soooo, what's your thoughts? Is it as good as dyno tuning? What would be the differences? The only thing that I know about dyno's are they tell you horsepower and torque.

Dynos do more than HP. Depending what kind of dyno. If your a weekend warrior motorworks will be fine. If your racing I wouldn't. One thing i learned after many many years in this sport is this just about all the cheap fmi controllers such as motoworks, big gun, trinity etc all look the same for a reason they are. They use a different sticker. For my LTr I had many and after my tech diagnosed them all he seen they were identical. The same company makes them all, and they have the same adjustability. If u find a dyno jet dyno it will benefit u to get a pc5. U can tune in 2 runs. Not 15. U tell the dyno what constant air fuel u want and that's what u will get. All the time. The other ones not so.there tolerences are limited to adjusting for elevation and temps. And just cheap.

And ill bet motorworks does not use there own fmi unit, I can almost guarantee it. I had a factory ride on my LTE with trinity... They didn't use there programmer LOL.

the motoworks fmi is pretty generic...and they all adjust the same way. the Power Commander seems like the only one with more adjustability than just fuel delivery...i like mine lol...

Not putting it down, it gets the job done. But as far as staying with all one company to get best results... I don't agree at least for racing. I tried it before and always mix matched parts. Always doing r&d. I have to say this has been the biggest challenge but im confident it will all be worth it, can-am makes me want to race again they are saving the sport due to all the others running away with tail between there legs. So if u cant beat em join em. LOL

Thanks for the input guys.

What am I missing with the pc I thought it was just mainly fuel also. Just a wider band of adjustabilty where as the motoworks would be a little better tuned so I would just have to fine tune for my area.

Talking

There cheap now too a pc5 new $299. If u get the mw fmi its like changing jets on a Carb. Do a dyno run, make a change, run change etc. It takes many runs trust me. And isn't as fine tuned or doesn't hold a tune as good. The pc5 may cost $100 more but u save more than that on dyno time with better results. U do a preliminary run, program your a/f u want to run plus other goodies, then its done. 2 runs. And u have auto tune for any future mods.

^^^x2 big advantage to the other piggybacks. if you can get you fmi close youll be good but honestly the fine tuning of the PC3/5 is just unmatched....the quad will run more efficiently and stronger....my only gripe is the price to dyno tune lol...im taking my quad in probably next week or 2 to get it reprogrammed since 5thgear falls flat and they want $200 to tune it....ugh...
