Battery Not Charging?

While riding snowy trails this weekend, my engine light came on, lost power, and died. It jump started just fine, so the battery was obviously dead, but it ran only a few minutes and the same thing happened. We ended up limping home by charging the battery for 10 minutes by jumping to another running quad and then driving for about 10 minutes before the battery would die again.

So... It's not charging or generating it's own electricity.

Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas? I'd like to avoid taking it to the dealer to find something simple that you all already know about.

maybe the stator is bad try checking that or take the battery to your local auto parts store and have them test it to see if it is bad

check your fuses!!, i cant remember what fuse bank it is in but there is a fuse that controls if it recharges the battery or not. I looked for loose connections, broke wires, etc for like 2 weeks before i noticed it was just a bad fuse

Thanks guys. I'll have the battery tested and check the fuses. Really hope it's something simple like that and not the stator.

Did you get it fixed, what was it? I have the exact same problem!

At the last race it went into limp mode and just after I got off the track it turned off and I couldn't get it started anymore. The Dealer ended up replacing the battery, he said the old one didn't have a consistent charge.

So I went to a race this weekend with a new battery, but I could only ride as long as it was charged, which was enough for practise. It ended up dieing on me right at the gate on the first moto, can tell ya it's pretty frustrating to have to watch everybody else drive off and you have to push your bike back to the trailer just because your dealer didn't do his job.

It'd be great if you could post, what was necessary to fix the problem.
