Oil Spray Nozzle is small, been coming off a few quads since there is only one bolt to the case that can rattle loose so some epoxy them in. You can get to it with your top end off. It puts oil up on the cylinder wall and connecting rod. (See pic # 9) . If it failed it would cause immediate loud damage unless you got luckey. So if it's stuck to the magnetic drain plug it's steel, thats a concern. Not from the clutch basket or hub, look at this nozzle or see if it looks like a gear tooth or ?
You may want to take some oil and flush your engine completely see what else comes out, or some mechanics have a boroscope they can get up the oil drain plug etc and look around.

Wow! Thats a pretty big peice of metal not just a "shaving" .....Sorta looks like a squirter allright but it's so mangled I cant tell, any other ideas?
You got a boroscope to go up the drain plug and take a look see just to be safe? You didn't hear any gears grinding when you rode it and it shifts ok through all gears?

Heres a blow up sorta looks like about the same size but mangled....I'll email my son and ask if thats what ours looked like he'll let me know by tomorrow night. I would not start the quad to you get this figured out. Now I see why the dealer wants to tear down the engine.

Yup, that's quite the chunk. When I ride it, it sounds and feels normal. Even the mechanic said it sounded fine. However, this was his first ds450 ever doing a service on. Apparently, they have only had like 2 at this dealership. However, no boroscope to check up the drain plug either. Shifts fine 1-5. Don't hear any grinding whatsoever. Thinking back, last time I rode it, at low RPMs, there was a random clank. Came home and read about it and it sounded like it was either my chain hitting the guard or my other quad's winch hitting the front of it lol. But, no grinding or sharp metallic noises...And, im not exactly sure what all is included in taking the top end off to look at the squirter. Looks like I am going to run it a bit, change the oil. If I see any more bigger pieces or a lot of flakes, I will try and flush it out. If it just breaks, I guess I will just have to take it to BCS and get some things done with it.

Just about 2 hours from BCS. How hard is it to take one of these engines apart? I really didn't want to go above and beyond if I don't have to. My first thought is just running it until it breaks then taking it to get built up. Or, who knows how long that was in there and I have ridden it for like 4 hours already since I have gotten it. How much did he ride it like this before I bought it? Unsure....trying to weigh out benefits of each. Anyone know cost and turn around time for rebuilding an engine with better parts?

Well for rebuilding BCS is the way to go. Hes pretty busy at the moment, so best bet is to call Jay and ask him how long it would take. If I were you I would take it apart now, you don't want to run the risk of destroying everything else in the motor too.

lol I was hoping you wouldn't say that. Only had this thing a few weeks and rode it once...going to be hard to shut it down and try to take it apart... now the research starts of 'how to take apart ds450 motor'
