Clutch basket removal

Guys I got everything out except the clutch basket itself. I tryed everything and it only moves 1/2 in and will not come off. I only took off the small clutch cover and not the main one. My question is do I have to remove the large clutch cover to get the basket off? If you did remove it how did you do it? like I said I got everything off except the basket. Thanks in advance.

Yes you will have to take the large cover off. Basically there is a gear on the back of the clutch basket that is bigger then the clutch basket. It will not come off if you just have the small clutch cover off. The only way to get the basket out is to take the large cover off also.

In order to get the large cover off first drain the coolant, the bottom bolt on the water pump is the drain. Then take the bolts out for the large cover. I don't remember if you have to take the bolts out for the water pump cover, don't remember if the bolts go through to the case or not. I do know that you will have to take the oil filter cover off, one of those bolts goes through to the case. Then you can pull it all off. The gasket might keep it stuck to the case, but you should be able to get it off. When you pull that large cover off you will be pulling the shift pin out also. On that shift pin there is a little washer that can easily be lost. I almost lost it, lol! Also you might want to go ahead and order a gasket for the large cover, unless you are really good and don't rip it!

From your other post on the big nut that holds the clutch basket on:
There is a way to get it off without using a impact or the special tool. You should be able to put it into gear and then put a screwdriver through the rear sprocket in order to stop it from turning. This is how I put the nut back on, should be able to do the same thing to take it off. Seemed to work for me.
