Chain gets hot after riding??

Hey guys, I went for a short ride & when I got back, the chain seamed to be quite warm. Even the chain grease was starting to drip off... This is a new DS with the original chain lube from the factory. So my question is, is this normal? Should the chain be getting very warm after just a quick ride? Also, the chain was more flexible when warm, does it matter if the chain is warm or cold to be checking chain tension?

Check the adjustment, rider on at several locations along the upper chain, 7/8 constant free play or replace. If constant adjust by installing a screw driver from the tool kit in the sproket hub into chain tensioner, move the quad fwd to increase free play, adjust to 7/8 by loosening and tightening rear axle bolts to 48Nm(35ft-lb)......we drilled these axle bolts holes through and put nuts on to get more torque since they were coming loose.

I would think of course due to friction it’s going to see some heat, how much who knows, if you have it adjusted right and your gear teeth are not excessively worn don’t worry about it.

PS: This is why it better to change the rear when wanting to gear up or down, less revolutions, less friction, less heat, less wear.

hot metal

Check the slack in the chain, also take a close look at the sprockets look for abnormal wear. See if the chain is running straight by jacking up the rear of the bike and manually spinning the tires. Sounds like something is binding. I have never had a chain get that hot even if it was a little too tight, or was not running true with the sprockets.

Its in the tool bag. Its the screw driver, just take it out of the handle & use that. If you have the owners manual, it will show you. (you can download it from the BRP site)
