I swapped the fuel pump relay with the fan relay, and put the new relay from AutoZone in the fan relay spot and had a check engine light for about an hour before it cleared itself. No problems, it was recommended to me to put dielectric goo on the relay before putting it back in, it's cheap, you could try that to improve contact.
I attempted to remove the front plastics for troubleshooting (spark plug removal, relay swapping) only to figure out I didn't need to remove them for either. That plastic is a bitch. Use needle nose pliers for the relays but be careful not to break the plastic on the relay or drop it into the chassis. That also sucks.
