Question slip on vs full?

was wondering what in general the gain difference is between a slip on and full exhaust system. i just ordered a motoworks sr4 steel slip on. would've gotten a full motoworks or rossier but budget is kind of tight lately.

I honestly wasn't all that impressed with the power difference of just the slip-on but then again I had a 05 yfz450 before I bought this quad and they were probably one of the hardest hitting powerbands as far as 450's go. I wish I would of just saved up at the time since now I'm going to have to buy a full exhaust. I'm not saying the power is bad I just feel like I'm always wringing its guts out to get the power I want out of it.

If you ask me it really about how much you want to mod the engine in he future and you budget. Really a full isn't that much more expensive than a slip-on. A full rossier or woods exhaust is only a bit more than a mw slip on BUT you really need a power commander or other controller once you step up to the full. The pink wire just doesn't cut it. So if you want to put a intake on than you will want a full system to take advantage of the available power, and with that comes a fuel controller. That's what it comes down to If. You ask me. Don't forget to give rossier eng a call!

I'm hoping a motoworks slip on, k&n filter and pink wire mod do it for me after dropping so much money on the clutch. (for this riding season anyway)

A slip-on on the DS will make a noticeable difference. I really notice it on mine. Running a HMF Competition slip on, pink wire cut, K&N Filter.

I run a full HMF Ironman system and it rocks my world! You HAVE to have a FMI to take full advantege of a full system though. My buddy has a KFX 450 and when we were both stock it was a pretty even match till I got to the high RPMs. Now he has just a full system and I have a full system plus an FMI and I destroy him, no questions asked. I beat a fully built YFZ who was running a 13:75 compression pistion in a sand drag. I really think HMF is the most durable system and is cheaper than most others out there and produces more power. To me it is a no brainer which system to buy. I have not me a faster ds than mine yet.

Diminishing returns on investment with full pipe. You have to look at dyno charts with full systems vs runs with the slip on.

A slip on gives you a more open and lighter muffler vs stock. A full system adds what? A rounder pipe to the muffler? 1hp from different tune length working on reflected waves in a closed airbox?

There were great gains with four cylinder sport bikes when using full systems since the head pipes could be merged at a tuned length higher in the RPM band. That was better than the street tuned stock pipes. The tuned length would use pressure wavefronts from one cylinder to get the air flowing sooner in the next cylinder. Not much help in a single cylinder.

hmmm well my FULL SYSTEM will stomp on any slip on...so...based on that logic....? the head pipe has a huge effect on power. and about "tuning" header pipe....fmf mega/powerbomb? spaced at a specific length from the head for increased power.. im just saying...seems to work fine on a single cylinder...

Ya zx11 sorry to say but ur quite wrong. Once you decide to spend some real cash and dig into the engine a bit u need a full system. But I guess all the top engine builders, pro riders and factory teams got it wrong....

Bottomline you want power. U go full system. For u guys that have fuel controllers with a slip on ur gaining 1/4 what you could with a full if that.
