My son said he took his out two weekends ago and it all the sudden dies and would not start....so we charged the battery and I had him run it 4000 rpm or so and see if the battery was charging. The intial reading was 12.5vdc or something and when he rev it up a bit it did climb...so he went out last weekend no prob...these things act really weird sometimes if the battery is not fully charged at all times, I'm thinking he started out too low and the stator could not charge it fast enough to keep it running but not sure what the prob was...a dead cell can also cause wierdness....

Anyway, make sure your charging system is working, do the same thing my son did above, start there...it's an easy test...let me know if you have questions.

Also take a jumper hot to the starter lead ground to the battery or chassi see if it starts.

it is something electrical. when the wiring harness is out of the quad and straigtened out as much as it can be the quad fires up like a champ..once it is snaked into t he quad same thing happens.. i figure its a bad wire wire in the harness..i went ahead and over nighted a bcs wiring harness to myself i should get this AM...if that doesnt work..looks like i will race my wifes KTM this weekend

So no fault codes, works fine when you straighten the stock harness out, BCS one doesn't fix it.....something is not adding up, you sure all that is accurate?

What part of the stock harness did you straighten out that fix it....I'll look at the wire diagram and see whats there. I need wire colors.

I'm beginning to belive your problem is post starter and mechanical, valves, decompressor, piston, gears, etc.....bogging your starts down.

Good luck on the KTM this weekend, be carefull not to blow motor.

any updates on this, same problem, thought it was the decompression valve, but wasn't, could this be timing issue?
