The DS is a good quad. Havent had mine for very long but I can tell ya that I've always had suzuki's, I've been sponsored by Suzuki with lots of support, and Now I'm on a Can Am and I love it.

I used to own a cannodale so I had my share of extreme maintenance. You had to run sythetic oil and change it every 10 hours, fuel filter every 15. I did mine as required and never had a problem till I put new rings in and put the piston in backwards and broke the valves. I rode it from 2003-08 and did a fair amount of racing on it. I know that if you didn't run synthetic and change the oil every 10 hours you would eat the crank. Granted the cannondales had a whole lot of problems with rod bearings and the crank that not even proper maintenance could save but if maintaned properly they would almost always outlive the ones that didn't. Unless of course you got a lemon that they forgot to torque the cartidge bolts in.

i have 2 Ds450s, mine is being rebuilt because a piece of the clutch ended up in a crank bearing (id rather not type up the entire explanation again!). go to my rebuild thread for more info lol

the other one, my dads, has had one problem in the past 2.5 years. and it was a bad relay. i ride that F***er almost every day around town, or around the ranch. before i got my license i put more miles on that thing than most people put on their cars. even in the middle of December i rode that thing for hours!

ive done a total of 3 oil changes and clean the air filter every month or so, i think the clutch is wearing a little but its not bad.

i don't think oil changes play a huge role in engine failures, if you can afford to change your oil every time you so much as look at the thing, then be my guest. but for us normal people, truth is... its just not convenient or cheap enough to make it realistic
