DS 450 engine failure

Earlier in the year whilst racing, my atv dropped all its watter without me realizing. This caused the atv to overheat, however the engine management limp home mode didn't work, so i carried on racing none the wiser to the damage that was being caused. Due to the fact we believe the engine management caused damage to the engine as the overheating prevention didn't work. We were wondering if this sort of problem has happened to any other fellow ds owner and what was done about it, as the engine has had a full rebuild but still isn't running properly as the engine was so badly damaged.

I'm sure it didn't go into limp mode cause it didn't have a temp to sense... No coolant.

If the engine was fully rebuilt (properly) any previous damage should have no affect on how it works now. All the bad parts would have been replaced, crank piston and cylinder...your starting out with a clean sheet. Unless you warped the valve or something and they were not checked and/or replaced.

limp mode would be achieved by coolant temp... if there is no coolant then the ecu has no idea what the engine temp is.

Race ecu removes limp mode so if there is no setting to prevent overheating it will keep runnin, also cv4 hoses eliminate the temp guage so no. Temp gauge once again no way to tell if overheating

The bike is all standard regarding ecu etc. however the coolant was all dropped as previously stated. With the engine rebuild, all has been replaced bar the cylinder head which is where the problem lies, and even when replaced the dealer has said that performance and reliability will not be the same. However the problem we have is that its going to cost us near enough the bike costs to get the engine sorted, and even tough the bike is still under warranty, can am won't pay out for anything, even tough it must be a problem on the machines behalf instead of the riders?

Well I've never heard of someone loosing all their coolant but as previoslu stated the temp guage reads coolant temp, no coolant no code that its overheating. Was there any leaks u could find? Radiatoor hoses? Radiator itself? Plug screw? BRP should cover most if not all if its still under warrenty

Is the temp guage in the thermostat? or do the cv4 hoses remove something els too. How do you remove the temp sensor

the temp sensor is on the lower end of the head on the right side
but.... no coolant = no temp for sensor to sense = ran till it stopped
