to clarify the location of the fuel pump relay-if I am standing in front of the quad looking at the headlights the far right relay is the fuel pump? If so, then I switched it out and it still will not prime the fuel pump.

First post but I feel the need to reply to this since it was a huge source of stress for me just before my trip out to the dunes in Moses Lake, WA for Memorial Weekend.
I had the same problem after I had the dealership fix my rear brakes, the quad came home and wouldn't start (no fuel pump whine when you take the kill switch to Run), I swore that they screwed me over somehow but they couldn't look at it cuz they were booked solid.
Troubleshooting yielded little results, the solenoid (I think) under the seat made some crackling noises so I figured it was electrical, pulled the spark plug and it was wet and slightly corroded so I bought a new one just in case. All the fuses were fine.
All three of those relays are the same, you can reach a pair of needle nosed pliers to pull them out, make sure the inlet for the 5 poles is somewhat clean. I took the fan relay out and plugged it into the fuel pump relay and it started right up.
If you're sitting on the bike facing forward, from Left to Right, it's Fuel Pump/Lights/Fan. Just be careful not to drop it into the chassis cuz it's a bitch to get out if it falls far enough.
I read some posts about it from other forums and some racers carry 3 spares because they fail fairly often. I bought 2 from AutoZone (some old dude took a 3 second look at it and said "I've got 'em".. it was beautiful) and reinstalled the Fan relay, the Check Engine light stayed on for a couple heats around the dunes but reset about an hour later.
Thankfully my Memorial Day Weekend was saved. Everything went fine except for breaking my second flag mount on the rear grab bar after a minor roll and blowing out a paddle that was fixed with a trailer hitch smashing session.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the post. I did apparently replace the right relay but still nothing. Since I have an extended warranty I will just take it to the dealership. It will run me a $50 deductible but I checked both fuses and that relay and it still will not prime the fuel pump. I did not switch out the other relays, but I did switch out the fuel pump relay and that is all that should matter. Since it ran me $10 for the relay, I can take that back and apply the $10 refund to my $50 deductible. Well worth $40 for the dealership to trouble shoot the problem. Will keep everyone posted. I am guessing a bad fuel pump.

Well not sure how much it will run, but the fuel pump is bad. They said it is throwing the wrong voltage or something. Either way they have to order the part and thankfully I have the extended warranty. I RARELY buy any warranty but was concerned over the DS reliability.

Want to thank everyone for the valuable feedback concerning the relays. Was riding out in the SOCAL desert yesterday and my quad ('08 DS 450X) went into what I thought was "Limp Mode" but then died. Was able to restart but had a solid check engine light with intermittent flashing. Was actually having some starting problems prior to yesterday too but wasn’t too concerned at the time. Anyhow, long story short, limped safely home and checked all my fuses and connections but couldn't find a problem. Then I turned to this outstanding forum and read about the relay problems and purchased new relays from AutoZone today, installed them and problem solved! Thanks again! Greatly appreciated!!!
