not a problem, despite what others think.
I use Helicoils everyday. They ARE magnetic.
This happens with helicoils all the time. Its not in the engine, cause it has to be screwed in to be in there, if you unscrewed the bolt, there is no way for it to be in the engine. If you took the screw out and the helicoil is gone, its on the end of the screw. If not, its on the ground somewhere.
Helicoils aren't solid, they are a wire, wrapped in a coil.Thats why Helicoils will sometimes, and not always, leak. Thread pressure will help it from leaking, but will also wear the aluminum threads out faster.
If you still cant find it then, be careful, use a powerful magnet and swipe the bottom of the cases(with 4 tires on the ground). work your way back to the hole to remove the helicoil. The more powerful the magnet, the more it will penetrate the cases.
Dont PANIC its ok.

Now thats some good news!! Im definetly gonna pick up a nice high powered magnet today and see if its in there. This is gonna save me so much time cause im not evan 100% posative that its in there! thanks alot MX450R!!
Now im gonna need some new threads for that drain bolt so what would be the best way to do this? heli coil again?? or should i tap new threads right into the engine itself and get a bolt that will fit the new threads?

I dont know the wall thickness of what your speaking of, so it would be harder to explain.
If you were to move up in bolt size, and keep the same pitch, you could essentially not even use a Helicoil. Once again if I knew the size of the bolt, I could be more informative but I'll try anyway. If the bolt is an
M8X1.25mm 8 is the size of the bolt, and 1.25 is the pitch. Keep in mind the numbers are metric. If there is an M8 Helicoil already tapped it could measure around 11mm. So you would have to move up to the next size STI tap...M12X1.25.
Once again these are not the actual sizes... They are only examples to guide you in the right direction. That being said,
STI stands for : standard thread insert. An STI tap is much larger than a regular tap to accommodate for the insert. ALSO be sure to use a Fast-Spiral tap. these taps pull the long chips out of the hole, you'll have to rely on a shop vac and a good small attachment for the small chips...dont forget to have the oil fill cap OFF the quad. Otherwise the shopvac will create a vacuum in the motor, and suck the chips back inside the motor.
This step is always best with an extra set of hands. Just keep the tip of the vac at the hole site, yes it can touch the tap.
OH YEAH BE careful, These taps are the most fragile and will snap off if you try hand tapping on a Friday night drunk....I know.....fo sho.
Lemme know how it goes

ok the heli coil is out! ended up having to take the engine out and than when i got a better view it was in the engine so i used a magnet and got it to the drain hole and ended up being able to pull it through. now i think im just gonna tap new threads for a new drain bolt, or i was looking at drain bolts that tap make there own threds. anyone ever see or use one of these before? seems like a good idea

Take a tap and tap the threads! Do not use the self tapping bolts. They are great for one time use but not using several times over and over.
