Oil Type
Guys, I do not mean to beat a dead horse here but I need your help. I am just about due for my first oil change. I was wondering what your thoughts are on oil type? I searched on here and someone mentioned that they ran 10W-40 non syn to let the rings seat somemore. What are your thoughts? I know I am going to half to change the oil often. How long do you guys run your oil for? I was thinking about 5 hours max, what do you think? I know everyone has " their" type of oil. I was thinking of running rotella. Just not sure what grade to run. Just looking for some guidance here. thanks inadvance guys.

I would just use the factory oil (xps 4-stroke synthetic).. unless you have a built motor no need to go off the market..
remember the manufactures know best!!!! yea you can save money buying other oil's but it cost a lot more when something goes wrong.
After the first 5 hour's you should change it, and for me it's like every other 3 rides than I change it.
every 5 hours might be overkill!!!

I use the xps. I know some people don't like it, but the factory uses it for a reason.

Thanks guys. I think I will stick with the XPS. Hey blaster since you race, how often do you change your oil? I am mainly going to be doing cross country. What do you think?

id do it every race. an oil change is part of any basic race prep, doesnt really take that long, and is well worth having fresh clean oil and filter rather than chancing the condition your bike is in from the last race. just my .02

Before every race normally. I don't ride much during the week, so if you are riding every day, you might want to change it a bit more.

If I remember correctly when they are brand new Can-Am puts a different oil in it for break in. But when your time for your first oil change you can run anything you want. I was running the Can-Am oil but go tired of paying so much. I am now running Rotella in mine. As for oil changes, in between races don't have time to ride much at all so I change the oil after every race and the filter every other race. This has worked for me so far.
