been thinking about getting a ds 450?
been looking at them and a kfx 450 or raptor 700 .
what i like about the ds 450 is that it seems more r&d went into it then the rest i mean the 700r had a base design or "predeseccor" the 660 and basically improved what was already. the kfx has a lower seat and the battery is mounted to the bottom down between the headers and a arms which means it has a lower center of gravity i think?.ds 450 is different than the rest + it has a rotax and i have seen the as low as 3700$ locally and 4200$ out of state which i could have it shipped etc. but i like how the front fenders and rear are race cut for the kfx450 pop on and off .but i like the curves the 700 has with low end toque . i havnt seen a ds 450 in person or kfx 450 but i have seen the raptor 700 almost jizzzed myself damn that thing was a beaut but 6900$ for a 08 se model . and i dont know of anywhere i could find a kawi local i know of a canam dealer about 53 miles away . i mostly like to speed down the highways and hard packed dirt roads . yeah i know ya aint suppose to but hey aint know trails with 200 miles and no cops of 20 miles so i make the best of it . i dont have a atv currently i use to drive a arctic cat 500 & 300 .

It just depends on the type of riding your going to be doing... For desert I can't think of a better quad than a ds650x... I murder raptors 660 & 700 in top speed, hp & Tq, and almost everythng you need comes with the bike plus the rotax 650 is probably the only thing besides twinkies and roaches that would survive a nuke lol.
I'm lucky, having a 09 ds450 x xc and an 06 ds650x... I like them both, but I really don't like having to do all these updates... The Ds 450 is amazing!!!! Don't get me worng, it's the most reactive/ responsive atv I've ever ridden... And i've ridden the IMS/ roll design GNCC race yamahas and their newer kawi's when they first came out...
I like the kawi a lot too, I've always been a huge kawi fan...
Anyway good luck, if you get the DS i'm sure you'll love it

I had a KFX450R, it was faster than my DS stock. It took a while to get comfortable on it but over all I liked it. I had to sell it and the guy who bought it put a pipe filter programmer and cams and its scary fast now.
With that being said - it also had no aftermarket on it. One of the reasons I went with the XC was all of the typical aftermarket stuff you put on. Nerfs, rims, rubber, bars, stem, skids etc.
It was the best bang for they $ and they pretty much gave it to me. Once I get a pipe and programmer for it I'm sure the DS will smoke, I'm looking forward to that day! Stay away from the craptors! They are fat guy quads

im not really worried about top end they all go 70 mph+ dont really matter to me how much speed varies after that 71-78 mph .can always buy a stage 3 cam etc. i went and sat on a raptor i like the look and feel of it i wish i could have both lol . i hear the ds 450 weighs under 340 lbs ?.the high revving dohc would be ideal for a turbo which gets it power from 5800 rpm's up.i like the raptor because of the longest list of mods you can do to it .though a 08 ds is like 30-50 % cheaper than a 700r , i like the lime green of the kawi and the bottom ount battery .probably get a 700 this year and if i get that job next a ds 450

Raptors are honestly alot slower than either of those 450's. On top of that, raptor's handle like crap tooo. So if i were you id be turning around and going to the Can-Am dealer.
Can-Am=
Raptor=
Just my opinion haha

Old raptors i would agree with you guys, but the 700 is an amazing quad. I think out of the box it is the best stock quad for all around use (not racing). It is good at everything and easy to ride. Having said that and riding my dad's 700 before my purchase, I would much rather have my ds450. It is different. The Raptor is easy to ride at any pace you want and has power no matter where you are. The DS does not like to go slow, it wants to rev hard and stay high in the RPMs. But when you are up there it really rips and the handling is much quicker. Anyway thats my experience with these two quads.

I agree with quadracer...the rappy 7 is a beast and has all sorts of power - its just a different type of machine. The DS is light and nimble and can be made to go real fasssssssst
I'm sure none of those quads will disappoint. Having owned 2 of the 3 and ridden the 3rd their all great quads. The KFX sat a little low and racy for my riding style - but was fast and handled well.
Still getting used to the DS - I've only had it for a month and have only put maybe 5 hrs on it. That will change this weekend though.
