I have the option to pickup a really well priced (translate cheap) "new" 09 XXC but wondered whether I should pay "extra" for a 2010 XMX ?

I will go with the xmx because, with either you can race enduros, just put biggers tires and thats all, the xc is for "enduros" but doesn´t come with reverse gear, so is the "same" but a little narrow, only 4 inches difference. With the mx you can race most of the styles.IMO

The XMX is wider which will suck in the tight woods if that is what you race.

I would get the 09 XC and spend the money on mods. Clutch and frame reinforcement if you do enduro.
