Possibly buying ds450 MX.
Hey guys new to the forum. I currently have an MX built 05 450r and like it very much. I am going to be running over30A in TQRA and a couple of nationals next year. I'm wondering if Can-am is going to keep the same contingency plan for 2010. I know a lot of the factories are cutting back next year. Any news on this?
Also if I get into one of these Can-ams what should I expect to do mod wise to be a competitive machine beyond the basics (Pipe, Programmer, Intake, Cams, Porting)? Suspension (stock revalve, full aftermarket arms and shocks, just front aftermarket)?
I heard some issues with flywheel, clutch, a-arm mounts, overheating, no low end power, expensive port jobs and parts, high center of gravity, frames cracking? Any thoughts?
Would it be wise to buy a 2010 or are the 2009 models the same bike?
Sorry for the large amount of questions. I don't know a whole lot about these machines. I just know that BRP is dedicated to quad racing and I respect that. I just want to make a sound decision on a big change and investment. Thanks for any answers you have!

well, can-am has not released anything on contingency, but I have heard from pretty reliable sources, they weren't cutting back on the contingency. Honestly, everyone that rides one of these, loves them. Basically, there are only a few things you need to make this quad very reliable. One of those is a motoworks clutch basket. If you put any power to the motor over stock, you will eventually break the stock one. Save yourself the trouble, and get a motoworks one in the beginning. The low end power is fixed by motor mods, only when the quad is full stock it has the problem. I have not heard of very many frames cracking, but there are some, just like all other brands. Also, the center of gravity is actually pretty low if you ask me.

ct racing seems to think it does have a high center of gravity and suggested race-tech shocks to me, but i think its pretty darn perfect as it is....no roll at all.

I talked to my Can-Am rep tonight and he said that Can-Am is all about the grass roots marketing, you know getting people to race their stuff and then supporting them with contingency money and the racer support program. I just got my box of goods for the racer support program tonight. Came with the Motoworks slip on which they say wakes up the lower end a lot, the race ECU which wakes it up even more, the frame support bracket to beef up the front frames section between the a-arms, the aluminum battery tray, the louvered radiator grill, a cast aluminum bearing carrier with new bearings, and I think that might be it. I'll find out tomorrow when I start putting it on for this weekend. With the $1000 parts account they gave me I'll get all the parts for the updated clutch since mine didn't come with one and some sweet can-am hand guards. Not bad for just trading my warranty for all those parts! 2 A class XC 2nd places in the 2 races I have ran so far this year and that was bone stock. I already loved this machine, now I think I will like it even more once I get all the goods put on for this sunday.

I race MX with a 2009 XMX up in canada and a little bit of supermoto. I run the PRO class for supermoto, and Pro-AM for moto. Always had suzuki's before it and I am in love with the Can-AM. They are good bikes for sure, Handle good nice and light and dont tire ya out near as much as anything else I've ever ridden. I'd go for a 2009 or later model as they have alot of the updates already done on them, and I'm certain that in the next few months there is gonna be alot of new 09's available cheap. Any questions dont hesitate to PM me
