New '08 issues and questions
Hello, I ride an '08 Renegade 800, and since i ride a lot in the summer time my girlfriend just bought a left over '08 DS450 so she can ride with me, now after getting it home and finding this great site, i am a little worried, mainly about the clutch issues, ive only rode it about 3 times not any more than 15-20 minutes total ride time, and it did squeal a few times when starting out (ive ridden many clutched bikes before so its not me )
From reading on here it seems like BRP does not like to fix the clutch before its an issue, we only got the standard 6 month warranty and i have a feeling that since its winter time that six months will be up before we get many rides on it, i priced out the parts to do the update, (cover, hub, and plate) which is about $160, so if i had to do it myself i could and it wouldn't be that bad price wise, but if any of you guys have any tips or pointers to try to get my dealer to cover the clutch while its in the shop getting the recalls done that would be much appreciated!
other than those issues i love the bike, oh, and one more thing, i would like to put the '09 headlights on it, other than the wiring, will these lights bolt up and line up with the fenders?
Thanks, Joe

If you bought a renegade and a ds 450 from the same dealer they should hook you up with the update, go ask nicely. IF that doesn;t work call Can-Am and tell them that you were a loyal customer and what you already own and see what happens. If they don't help you I wouldn;t be afraid to tell them you are done with BRP. There is more to buy than just the plate, cover, and hub. You also need a new impeller, bearing, seals for the water pump shaft etc since you will more than likely destroy the impeller and bearing getting them out of the old cover and I am not one to re-use pressed in seals. I'm in the middle of changing all this out and it has been a pain in the asz ans has cost about $250 so far.

well, i didn't buy them from the same dealer, the owner of the place that i got my 800 from can go jump off a bridge as far as im concerned, the dealer that we got the 450 from is about 250 miles away, they were one of the last dealers in the state that had 08's left, the only other can-am dealer is about 20 miles away from me, but i have only been in the place once to get an oil filter for my 800, so, i bet my odds are pretty slim on getting the update done since ive only spent $12 there, i will call them after work today and see what they will do for me, wish me luck!

I don't think it is a matter of "if" they will do the update at all. I thought it was a recall that was to be done before you bought the machine. I would call BRP to get the specifics for your bike (give them the VIN) and they can tell you if it's been done as well as if the dealer should do it free of charge. I do like my dealer and there was no question about whether this was to be done or not.
Definitely look into it and don't be afraid to raise hell at BRP...you ARE a loyal customer to the company itself and it is in their best interest to keep customers happy. They obviously have a vested interest in the sport w/as much as they've done recently.

I got some 09 lights if ya want them. . . My 09 clutch squeals like a pig, and I've hammered that bike for 8 months without any problems...(Knock on wood) you might be ok for a little while, but I would change it eventually. I would still let her ride it, just change out the parts when you would normally replace your clutch.
