Clutch help
I am not a mechanic, but I am learning. I am looking for help on a clutch removal and installation help. My son has the dreaded 08 with the bad clutch basket, and poor oiling. I have been in contact with BCS about the updates and we are getting the hole drilled new basket clutch and so forth. He was in a race Harescramble, and went from 3rd to 4th and it was like the bike was in neutral. It made no noise only not working. I took the small cover off and found nothing out of the ordinary. And from the searches I have done I am not sure if I need to take the water pump out or gust drain it And do I need a special tool or will a screw driver in the rear gear work? Any help would be great photos well that would be a blessing…
Thank ya’ll for all the help I have learned from this forum!

You do not need to take the water pump out. When you remove the bigger part of the clutch cover it comes with it, just make sure you drain the coolant first. You wont need any special tools to take the clutch off, once you get the retaining plate for the clutch spring off there will be a big nut behind it, I think if you put the bike in gear you will be able to get the nut off without it spinning but if not just use an impact gun and it will get it off. After that nut is off everything will come out, and you will probably find that the rivets that hold the basket to the drive gear are sheared off and maybe some shattered plates. Make sure you find all the pieces when mine did this there were 16 pieces of rivets in the bike. Hope this helps

I just took my out a few weeks ago. It's fairly easy. Just drain the fluids and take care with all the hardware. I don't have an impact gun so I had to stick a 1/2 ratchet between the sprocket and the swingarm (while in gear) and then used a breaker bar to loosen that nut. Other than that just note any orientation and location of springs/bolts/washers and you should be good.

Clutch is out
Well I got the clutch out and only found the springs are kind of worn. The basket is ok clutch looks good. I then started to think the transmission was broke, but its not. I found the retaining clip on the front gear was gone and the gear slid off. Any Idea why the clip would come off, and is there a fix for this? Or is this just not a common problem. But any way I got the clutch out, the basket out and the clutch cover and I put it and ziplock bags and going to send it to BCS for the oil hole, basket, I guess springs and ask them to check the clutch.
Thanks for the info on clutch removal...

Did the quad slip back into gear? The 08s can av quite a bit of false neutral issues in between 3rd and 4th. If the gear sheared off the back you would know it.. I was one of the first that I know of to do it, and there were rivets.... everywhere.

No that was ok, the front gear the chain goes on the C-clip came off and the gear moved off the spendal so it acted like the clutch did not work.

I'm not saying don't support your vedors or anything, but wouldn't it just be cheaper to buy a nut and some washers?
I guess i just dont understand how something so simple could be $15. Could somebody please explain
