new guy from ohio

hey im scott im from ohio and right now i race xc on a 400ex. I noticed the deals on the ds450s and now im wanting to upgrade. Where i live 08 ds450s are going for 4000 new. Ive heard that with racer support program you can get them $2000 and get a stage 1 kit. Im hoping you guys cant help me out i just want to make sure that this is a reliable quad ive heard some bad things about it.

Thanks

hey there welcome
well the 08s did have some problems but if all the updates and recalls were taken care of they hold together quiet well. there are a handful of riders that have had problems and another handful that haven't. personally i went through a couple clutches at first but havent had a problem since february of 09 with anything on the bike at all. witha few simple free mods you can do yourself they are quiet competitive, and they REALLY open up with a pipe and programmer or pink wire mod.

thanks the main thing im worried about is the cracked case. it sounds expensive. It also seems like its harder to find parts for these bikes.

weeeeelllllllll yes some people have had issues with a cracked case. i personally havent had this issue but have read that a little jb weld or a tig weld in the area will help fix/prevent this problem. there is an update for the sleeve that helps, and TNT has posted an EXTENSIVE topic regarding the issues behind the crack.

as far as parts go i have had no problems finding any. granted....you wont be able to find as many parts for it as the trx or yfz....but if you know where to look you will find what you need. rockymountianatv, goldenwest cycle/atv, KB motorsports, BCS performance, mods3.com, they all have a fairly extensive selection of ds450 parts. as far as upgrading the quad rossier and ron woods and bcs all have extensive lists of mods for the bike. if your looking for anything specific just post here and im sure someone can point you in the right direction!

Welcome to the site! Yes, the dealer should do the sleeve along w/all other pertinent updates. They should let you know what other updates need to be done!

No, a case saver won't help!
