just another new guy

Hello everyone,

Here's a lil about myself.... After going from a 400ex to an 86 Honda 250R about 7 yrs back I was convinced I'd never go 4 stroke again. Second season of owning the 250R and dumping countless amounts of money into I crashed hard (who woulda thought.....LOL) end result was a broken knee and a wrist left dangling from my arm....OUCH! Decided to not ride for a lil and now after 5 years im back. When I first stated looking at quads not gonna lie i was LOST! after researching about 6 months I went and put my down payment on a KTM 450sx 2009 with a pick up date of may 24 ( its a long weekend where im from). About 2 weeks later I starting reading more about the DS and all the technology that is has which a few weeks earlier I over looked, already being a lil skeptical paying $8000 for a carb'd quad when all the other manufactures have gone fuel injected I started trying to find how much i can get a DS for. Well obviously since I am writing this we all know i found a good deal haha

When i first brought it home i was suuuuuuper excited until the first day I took it out...... F*** I WAS MAD!!! 1 st and 2nd gear were obsolete (non existent) 3 rd gear finallly had some life but I found myself in fourth alllllll day sometimes even 5th on those long stretches (first time out I went trail riding just to feel the bike out). On the way home i was asking my buddies who ride 450LTR what gears they were finding them selves in different areas of the forest and they allll had the same answer ..... 3rd all day 4th on those long stretches.

Sooo here I am on my way home from my first ride and could not be any more disappointed then i was, all that was running through my head was KTM.... KTM... 52 hp stock.... damn Im an idiot. Down but not quiet out I researched and I researched (which is one of the reason i signed up here and by the way thanks to hcomras for all the good tips and tech answers) After researching I quickly found out that *stock* this machine sucks!!!!! but with a few upgrades it brings them to life. Once i found out the reason for my 1st and 2nd gear being obsolete was due to a lack of air/fuel and a lil thing called a pink wire mod ...I quickly added a full Rossier System, Pro Design Pro Flow Kit and did the pink wire mod.

seeee that smile hahahaha

Could NOT be happier. Best atv Ive owned. This winter ill be stripping the bike down, doing full MOTOWOZ suspension, SMC Long Travel A-Arms, Lonestar + 2 Steering stem and DuraBlue 2 + 2 axle. Still cant decide on a steering stabilizer but im sure by the time I get every thing else together I will know.

Precesion Puck style stabilizer. The stick ones are pretty useless after 2 hrs of hard riding

Thanks for the advice you just sealed the deal for me. I was leaning towards that style, after looking at the two designs the puck style seems as though it will work alot better just needed a lil info from someone a lil more knowledgeable.

Lol I'm hardly "knowledgable" just a victim of impatience and laziness. I got one of the streamline stick ones....worthless in the dunes it heats up so fast and them takes forever for the oil to cool down and regain pressure...
