If it spins the carrier and the chain becomes to loose, it could come off and you DNF, or worst case it could hit the case and break it, but it will most likely just come off. Now if the chain is to tight, if your lucky you will just ruin the chain. If your not lucky, and you hit a bump it could break the sprocket shaft (not good) or pull the shaft back and break the case and possibly ruin the tranny in the process (even worst). So i`m really not looking to argue with you CANAMracerdad, but you would still be ahead, to have it come loose...either way you could get a DNF, but one is alot more expensive. Just my opinion

The theory behind, is such that , if the torque will pull it tight , the shock from the bump will knock it loose . our engine makes 34 ft lbs of torque, a 350 lb quad , w/ a 180 lb rider jumping a 30 foot double at 45 mph falling from 18 feet in the air will make alot more than 34 ft lbs .( I can do the math for you if you want)
we have not broken a shaft yet , we have damaged a chain or 2
However .... we have not had a DNF for that reason since we changed the way we setup our carrier.
You do not have to agree w/ me .... I simply put a tip out there ,

The loose carrier should loosen the chain regardless of the axel being on the upper part or lower part. It will never tighten since the carrier has bearings and the sprocket and chain are attached to the axel. It only sees tension pulling it closer to the drive sprocket.

Can-am must not have enough surface between the swing arm and the eccentric adjuster if they spin while the bolts are tight.
