Thumbs up Hey CAN-AMers

whats up ladys and gents. im Ty and just joined up with the site 4/17/11. im a member of the LTR450hq forum since i.....you guessed it race a ltr. now dont hate me yet.....Suzuki took a crap on hurrying up with a new ride so i think im finishing out my 2011 XC season with the jap bike and switching to the BRP can-am boys.

ive spent alot of time readin on this site and getting a kick out of some stupidity and also the real dedication yall have for these machines. what ive read-BADASS rides. like any machine-theres pro's and con's. like the LTR-corked up slowwwwwwww and VERY VERY lean running machine. remove spark arrestor and plug in the $15 dollar MAP, whole different machine.

Now ive raced for 4 years now and ive noticed that the DS450s are popping up more and more now and im very impressed. i WILL NOT ride a honda and just not impressed with the yamaha (they kinda remind me of the yankees, they have tons of money to buy and build the greatest thing ever, and its truely not). i think around august/september i will be buying a new ds450x xc. after about 45 hours or breaking it in-it will be raced, and raced hard with no doubt about it.

i am a straight up guy and i knew buying the LTR i was in to spend money to make it from a mx bike to a xc ride and new of some problems i had to deal with from the factory. now for anyone who just read my essay i wrote....any comments, pros/cons, do's/dont's. must have's and need to avoids??

bars, levers, stabilzer and regeared is the first thing that will be touched before it sees dirt. around here is all woods and ALL the tracks are tight and not too many straight aways/mx riding. any other opinions???

im open to all problems with the machines and would love to hear what everyones gotta say....because im getting one reguardless

Welcome to the site. I would do exhaust, intake and FMI, That should wake up the ds quiite a bit. I haven't had many problems with mine and I just mainly dune with it. But other will chime in for what to look for. It also depends on what year you end up buying, new or hold back.

We raced LTR 's for 2 years before the Can Ams , Our Ltr Motor just took the second place in the pro class holeshot , so I can still build a ltr, The bottom line is that the ltr just will not hold together , they break too often .... the Can am is lighter and the engine is built stronger , to give you a much higher HP/Weight ratio . the suspension is "quirky, but adjustable , it requires alot of tuning from track to track ( it loves the Whoops if you are strong enough to hold it up )
The engine is different from the Zukis, hondas or the Kawi's .... this rotax is a strange critter , but it makes INCREDIBLE torque , you have to learn how to ride w/ torque , instead of the quick rap of HP in the LTR, When you think that the motor is "bogging" , Stay in it ,... the fuel injected motor is "hooking up " and if you learn to ride it there , you will pass the ltr, yami's, Kawi's, and the Infamous Honda !
