Just got a DS... already have it apart..

Hey everybody, I picked up a completely stock 2008 450x about 10 days ago and figured I should introduce myself. Because it has been raining constantly, the first ride only lasted about a half an hour. But during that short ride, of course I heard the clutch squeal a couple times. I had got oil and a filter to do an initial change anyway, so I started tearing it down for a good cleaning and to give it a good once over.

I have to say the wealth of info on this forum is amazing, and I learned a lot just from searching, even before I joined the forum. So, just today, I sent my clutch cover and basket to BCS to have them drill the cover and drill the rivets out of my basket so they can bolt on their machined one. I'll also be putting in a new clutch, since my discs are discolored from excessive heat/lack of oil. I'm also going to put in the updated shift pawls.

I have some engine ice on the way as well to use when I refill. I'm also going to throw on a 13 tooth sprocket and try that for the woods. I might end up dropping the rear down to a 41 if the 13/42 is too low. I'm also going to drop in a Bikemaster Truegel battery for good measure, and was thinking of also just replacing the plugs and wires with the NGK set available from BCS while I have the plastic off.

I don't really have any good pics of it yet, other than of it all tore down and of the burnt clutch, if anyone wants to see those. I'll try to post some when I get everything back on and get it cleaned up. Plus I am writing this on my phone so my thumbs are getting tired anyway!

Hey I saw your post earlier when I was on the road, but just got home. I took a bunch of pics of the clutch and can post some with some details of what I did. But really, there is a lot of info on it already and I found a lot just from searching. And I'm not sure if I should start posting that kind of stuff here in the new member intro forum.... I think it would be more appropriate to create a new post in one of the tech forums. Mods/supermods- please advise if starting yet another clutch thread with pics would be appropriate or not. I'm not going to be able to do anything right now anyway- its almost 2 a.m. and I need to get a few hours sleep before work. But I'll get you something.
