A new DS 450 X XC for a new member.
Hello all,
First post on here and I'm planning on picking up a 2011 DS 450 X XC this week. I ride in eastern PA and plan on riding up in Hazelton as well as maybe getting into some hair scrambles. This isn't my first ATV. I cam from having a pretty well done up Banshee back in the day, then went to a YZ426F, then to a KTM 505 SX-F, which I just sold in order to pick up my new DS. I was planning on getting a KTM 450 XC, but it seems that the DS 450 X XC has more going for it.
I've been searching around and have found some answers but am still unclear on certain things, so I'll post what I think I know and hopefully some of you can chime in and help me out with making sure I set up my atv the right way the first time.
What I usually do is start with the preventative stuff, i.e. magnetic oil drains plugs/filter caps, skid plates, frame guards, bark busters. I know this atv comes with some of these, I gather since I couldn't find an aftermarket magnetic oil drain plug, it comes with one?
I have read the recommendation of getting a billet clutch basket. Has the issue of these breaking have been mitigated by 2011? I'm not so worried about making all the power as I possibly can, but I am concerned about making sure I don't break things that I don't have to, or break things that will cause bigger problems to include getting pieces of metal throughout my engine.
I want to compile a list of necessary items that I can order now, so when I get my DS this week, they'll be waiting here for me. I'm not gun-shy of high prices, buy nice or by twice. I want to make sure I do this right.
...or should I wait till the 2012 comes out?

I really havent heard about problem with the clutch on the later 10-11 ds'. Mainly 08's and early 09's. The oil drain plug on the engine is magnetic but not on the oil resi. Power will be lacking till you get a full pipe, bcs filter kit, green injector and ecu remap but then you should be really happy with it. Hopefully my 08 will be sold tomorrow so I can get a nicely priced 11 mx.

Do the 2011s have issues with overheating like the 08s and 09s? Also, does the pink wire mod apply to the the 2011 models or does a remapped ecu not require the pink wire mode?
As of right now, I have ordered;
Sprocket guard (Bling Star)
coil relocation bracket (BCS)
inline water cooler (BCS)
sprocket retainer bolt (BCS)
case saver (BCS)
frame reinforcement kit (BCS)
Also, are their issues with the rear brake on the 2011 models? Should I get the BCS brake kit? I'm holding off on the rotor guard until I know what rear brake I will be using. I have yet to see this thing in person, so I can't look over it myself. Is there a parking brake and what is the best way recommended to deal with it? Block off plate on the caliper and a new lever, just get rid of it all together?

Hey I might be wrong but the 11 x xc has those frame reinforcement mods. The parking brake is a plastic lever that holds the front brake no need to remove anything from the rear caliper. Ive had my 11 x xc for a couple of weeks now and probably have 20hrs on it so far and only problem was the rear skid plate is garbage. I haven't ran into issues with the rear caliper yet.
Be careful the ds stock kinda scares me a little. I moved over from a trx450r and Ill never go back and I'm sure you wont.

These are the most pwerful stock 450's out there, and the ride difference coming off from a Honda is like going to heaven.

Oh, well I think I'll be ok. My KTM had about 63 horsepower and that was in an mx bike.
I was thinking about getting the ron woods stage I kit as well. The horsepower gain between the stage I and stage III are only about 4 horsepower according to the website. I just don't know what I want, the race core or quite core exhaust.

You just gave hcomras w$$d. Ron Woods is his horsepower idol. LOL
Seriously, that will be a good setup. Ron Wood knows a thing or two about the Rotax motor.

I'll give them(or him) a call tomorrow. I guess I should also give call BCS a call tomorrow to edit my order if my frame is already reinforced...I'll just add the K&N with velocity stack and rotor guard.
Will I require to perform the pink wire mod with a powercommander?

Lol I'm heeeeeere
Ron woods stage 2 kit!
Race core exhaust
Dual exhaust cams
Pc3
K&N filter
I would scratch the filter and go with the BCS intake kit, but still go with the ron woods exhaust and his pc3 and tune, then swap ur intake cam with an exhaust cam,a annd u should be over 50rwhp
I'm at 49.1 rwhp peak power. Race core exhaust, dual exhaust cams, pc3, stock k&N filter replacement.
Throw a piston and real cams u should get mad power
