Red face I'm the new guy...

Hello DS community!
I actually will not own a true DS though....
I am building a DS450 into a 90cc Mod. for my son to race Nationals.
I'm gonna put a KTM85 2stroke into the DS chassis. A friend has already done it with an RM engine and is going to help me with the conversion.
We gotta put the rear sprocket on the other side of the swinger and have a rear brake bracket made. Then some engine mounts.
Should be fun!

I'm not familiar with the class....but why take a 450 frame and mod it for a smaller motor? Why not just use a ds90 and swap in a big motor?

That was the plan until I realized that the 150 limits my son to just one class (Supermini) and I cannot see spending $1000 to be at the Nationals for one class. With the 85/90 KTM he can run 90 Modified and Supermini. Also, there is no class he'd be able to race in at our local series..
If the Schoolboy Jr. class was not "production" I'd throw a crf250 or Yamaha 250F in this bad boy...

The DS90 is a piece of crap and would never hold up against these 90 Mods on the National level.
As far as why use the ds450 chassis, It is very light! When its all finished it will weigh less than all the high dollar Modified quads at a fraction of the cost... So, Same engine, lighter quad, big boy suspension - sounds like a winner.......

sounds cool , not sure that the ktm 85 will be enough power for the winners circle though.

I sure hope your wrong...... I figure that the quads he'll be racing against will weigh about the same and they run cr85's and rm85's so it should be equal.....
